PhD Project: “Quality of Experience derived Olfaction-enhanced Multimedia Synchronization”.
The purpose of this project was to evaluate the user perception of multimedia enhanced with olfaction, the sense of smell. Through simulation of the different presentation scenarios experienced by more traditional media components (e.g. delay, loss, jitter, inter-media skew for video or audio), the project, via subjective studies has provided novel data and understanding of users quality of multimedia experience. Another key aspect of this work is the definition of a utility model, which based on the subjective data, proposes how the various aspects of olfaction enhanced multimedia contribute to enhanced user quality of experience.
